Building your own barn shed from barn shed plans is among the most satisfying things that you can possibly do.  They are also actually surprisingly easy to build, largely because many of the design elements of barn shed plans is now fairly standard and developed over literally centuries. So there is a very mature science behind building a barn that has been fine tuned and honed so that it is very easy to get exactly what you are looking for. This is especially true if you decide to go the self build route by getting yourself a good set of barn shed plans and then using them.

When I decided to do this I went with these guys who offered a great guide to how to build your own home and I have been very happy with the results.

To my mind the most important part of the whole process is effective preparation, and so if you don’t adequately prepare, the the reality is that you are preparing to fail.

Don’t let this happen to you! Make sure that you read widely about the process of self-building as you embark on this project, because you really will find that it will save you a lot of grief down the line.

Barn Shed Plans – Your Purpose

Spatially there is a lot to be said for the design of a barn shed, almost regardless of the use that you have in mind for it.  They can be very cavernous spaces, and the design is usually quite simple and elegant. Generally they will have made allowance for large amounts of light to enter, and will often be split level so that you have a whole plethora of uses that the upper level can be put to.  The design for your own barn shed can be simplistic, but it need not be.

You firstly really do have to sit down and decide on what your purpose is behind building the shed.

Again, a guide like this comes in very handy when doing this.

I have referred back to mine constantly, and it paid for itself in good advice within a couple of days of getting it!

So What Is Your Reason For Building A Barn Shed?

Now, for some folk in agriculture the reason will seem obvious. Perhaps it is primarily going to be used to store feed, or else to house cattle. But there are a lot of non-agricultural uses for a barn shed. It is no coincidence that in major towns and cities throughout the land that barn conversions into residential use are becoming increasingly popular.

This is because the design of barns is actually very conducive to living in. They are generally very wide open spaces, and the ceilings are generally very high. So even if you are looking at building a home it is well worth getting hold of some barn shed plans so that you can get some extra ideas as to how you could create your own living space in the best possible way. The last thing you want to feel is cramped!

Barn Shed Plans – Other Considerations

This then brings me onto the second factor that you need to give a lot of thought to at the design phase of your project. Namely the size that you have in mind. Barn sheds come in all manner of sizes, and whilst the image in your mind may be of an enormous agricultural type shed, the truth is that the design factors are actually very scalable, so that you can have large or small barn sheds according to how much space you actually have.  This is one of the great things about building a barn shed yourself from barn shed plans, rather than off-the shelf, because you are not limited to the size that a shed builder happens to size their barns in. Instead you can adjust the plans to suite your own specific requirements.

There are a lot of pluses with building your own barn with barn shed plans so be sure to check out the range of options HERE >> and see if they would suit your requirements.

If you really want to make your life simple then the best plan is simply to do like I did and buy a really good guide that walks you step by step through the process of what to expect, what you need, and how to get your barn shed built as quickly and as cheaply as possible, but to the high standard that you want.

This not only gives you something solid to work with, but also saves you from having to commission your own plans (which can cost literally thousands of dollars), and also gives you extra ideas about the types of things that you can incorporate into your building.
